Pentagon Sidelines Officer Over Anti Israel Posts
Col. Nathan McCormack, formerly the chief of the Levant and Egypt branch within the Joint Chiefs of Staff’s J5 strategic planning directorate, now stands at the heart of the furor.
The disciplinary move followed a report on Tuesday by the Jewish News Syndicate (JNS) about a semi anonymous X account allegedly linked to McCormack, which labeled Israel as “our worst ‘ally’.”
A Pentagon spokesperson informed JNS, “He will no longer be on the joint staff while the matter is being investigated,” noting that the Defense Department has appointed an officer to review the posts and assess their ramifications.
Another official statement added, “The individual is being returned to his service while the matter is being investigated.”
First highlighted by JNS and further explored by Middle East Eye, the archived messages also blasted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, branding him and associates “Judeo-supremacist cronies” who purportedly want “to expel [Palestinians] and cleanse ‘Eretz Israel’ [Israeli territory] of ethnic Palestinians.”
A Defense Department contractor voiced disbelief to JNS, remarking, “This is the kind of bitter oversharing I’d expect from someone who doesn’t know better,” and adding, “But at his level and under his own name and likeness? It’s mind-boggling.”
