Five Pass Away in Helicopter Crash in Pakistan
(MENAFN) At least five individuals lost their lives when a military aviation helicopter went down in the northern region of Pakistan on Monday, according to a statement from a government official.
The aircraft crashed within the Diamer area of the Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) territory, resulting in the deaths of all five crew members onboard, Faizullah Firaq, a spokesperson for the Gilgit-Baltistan administration, informed a news agency during a phone interview.
According to Firaq, the helicopter had been deployed by the Gilgit-Baltistan authorities for emergency aid and rescue efforts in the wake of recent heavy rainfall and flooding throughout the area.
He specified that the crew included two pilots and three members of the technical support team.
The helicopter was in the process of performing a trial landing on a newly designated helipad when the accident occurred.
Emergency responders had arrived at the crash site and begun their recovery efforts.
While the exact reason behind the incident remains unclear, the Gilgit-Baltistan spokesperson pointed to a possible “technical failure” as the likely cause.
