Bus Accident Leaves Eighteen Dead in Nepal
The bus, believed to have been carrying 45 passengers, was travelling from Pokhara to the capital Kathmandu when it veered off the road and into the river in the central Dhading district, triggering a fatal disaster.
"Most of the 27 injured have been sent to hospitals in Kathmandu for further treatment after primary care in a local hospital," Mohan Prasad Neupane, spokesperson at the district administration office, told media.
A second foreign national sustained injuries in the crash, Neupane confirmed. Authorities have yet to determine the nationalities of either foreigner involved.
Rescue and recovery operations were underway as local administration worked to account for all those aboard. The full death toll may rise as efforts continue along the river banks.
The Trishuli River corridor has been the site of several deadly road accidents in recent years, with the winding mountain highway posing significant risks — particularly for long-distance bus travel between Nepal's major cities.
