US Lawmaker Moves to Impeach Trump Amid Iran Conflict Concerns
Larson stated that the action was prompted by what he described as Trump “becomes more unhinged,” putting both public safety and national security at risk, while also urging members of the Cabinet to consider invoking the Twenty-fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution to remove the president from office.
In a statement, Larson said, “Donald Trump has blown past every requirement to be removed from office. And it’s getting worse,” criticizing what he called an “illegal war in Iran” and warning of the consequences for American lives and the national economy. He added that Trump is "unable or unwilling to faithfully execute the responsibilities of the office and he is putting the nation’s security and economy in jeopardy."
Even after Trump announced a two-week pause in military operations against Iran, reports indicated that several Democratic lawmakers renewed calls for his removal, citing alleged war crimes, reckless decision-making, and overall unfitness to serve. They also called for consideration of the 25th Amendment.
Section 4 of the 25th Amendment allows the vice president, together with a majority of the Cabinet or another congressionally designated body, to declare that the president "is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office." If such a declaration is made, the vice president immediately assumes the powers and responsibilities of the presidency as acting president.
